The Power of Color in Decorating

Color in a room will make an impression on you good or bad. That makes color one of the most important decorating choices that you will make.  Most people are afraid of color and therefore usually choose safe choices of white and beige. To add personality and charm to your home decor, color choices cannot be avoided.  Learning about the traits of each color will help you overcome some of the fear of using color. Warm colors are  the colors of fire.  Red is the most powerful color of all, it creates excitment, increases the appetite and stimulants activity.  Red is often used in resturants, dining rooms and to attract attention.  Orange is somewhat less bold than red, but is still a powerful color.  Orange is the friendly and fun color, which makes it a good choice to use as an accent color in childrens bedrooms and playrooms.  Yellow the color of sunshine represents happiness.  Yellow can be an uplifting and mood elevator, but can become overwhelming and slightly irritating when used in hrasher shades.  Which is probably why the deeper shades of yellow and gold are used for cuation signs.

Cool colors are blues and greens. Blue is a calming and sincere color.  Blue is the most favorite color of all.  Blue is a great color for bedrooms due to its calming affect.  Green is the color of energy and life.  Green is a good color for almost any room.  Medium shades of green are the favorites.  The extreme shades of green are not as popular.  The lighter shades of blue and green are great for warmer climates and beach houses.

Neutrals are shades of whites, beiges, and browns.  Black can also be used as a neutral.  Some may consider theses tints of color as boring, but there are some stuning shades of browns such as taupes and tans.  Neutrals can be great backgrounds for colorful furniture and asscessories.

The most important factor in choosing color is that you the client are happy with it.  Choosing a color you don't like are letting someone else choose it for you will only lead to feelings of disatisfaction.  Remember paint is not permanent and can be changed, so sometimes taking a chance will pay off in a color that you really love.
